While children were getting ready to open their Christmas presents from Santa, the Huntington Manor Fire Department responded to battle a blaze in a large shed at the rear of a home on Pidgeon Hill Road in South Huntington, on Sunday at about 7:30 a.m. Fifty Huntington Manor firefighters responded with three engines, two ladder trucks, two heavy rescues, and fire police, and had the fire under control within 20 minutes. Units were under the command of Chief Gary Hatton, and Assistant Chiefs Fred Steenson, Jr., Frank McQuade, and Mike DePasquale. The fire damaged the roof and rear of the shed, and is believed to be accidental in origin from a wood-burning stove. There were no injuries reported.
