Huntington Manor FD Responds to Basement Fire

The Huntington Manor Fire Department responded to a basement fire in a home on Leyden Street in Huntington Station, Wednesday, February 22, at approximately 10:20 p.m.  Sixty firefighters battled the blaze with four engines, two ladder trucks and a heavy rescue truck, under the command of 1st Assistant Chief Fred Steenson, Jr., supported by 2nd Assistant Chief Frank McQuade and 3rd Assistant Chief Mike DePasquale.  The Huntington Fire Department assisted with a Rapid Intervention Team at the scene, with the Melville Fire Department providing standby coverage at Huntington Manor’s headquarters. The blaze was brought under control within a half hour.  A male resident and a pet dog safely evacuated the home prior to the arrival of firefighters.  They were both treated at the scene by the Huntington Community First Aid Squad. The Suffolk Police Arson Squad and Huntington Town Fire Marshal are investigating.
