Commack Students Recycle Cellphones

The Commack High School Future Educators of America Club (FEA) and the Commack Teachers Association collected 83 used cell phones. Proceeds from recycling the phones will go towards the purchase of phone cards for our soldiers, or to assist victims of domestic violence. The high school students publicized this drive, contacting students, teachers, community members, and family.

The students distributed the phones to two worthy organizations. Inoperable cell phones are shipped to Cell Phones for Soldiers, a not for-profit organization. Funds from recycling the phones are used to purchase phone cards for soldiers being deployed or recuperating from injuries sustained during service. Operable phones with working chargers are sent to the Suffolk County Coalition Against Domestic Violence. The SCCADV will program the phones to call 911 and then distribute them to victims of abuse.

The Commack High School Future Educators are continuing with this project, and would appreciate your donation of cell phones that you may no longer be using. Please contact Mrs. McAuley, FEA Advisor, with any questions or to donate at mmcauley@commackschools.org.
