Fallen Nassau County Police Officer Arthur Lopez was a former Dix Hills Firefighter. Officer Lopez was shot about 11 a.m. today during a routine traffic stop at the Nassau County/Queens border near Belmont Racetrack. The murder suspect then shot another innocent bystander who was driving in a car. The suspect then took off in that vehicle. The murder suspect, identified as 33-year-old Darrell Fuller was shot twice and captured this evening in Queens. This is the second Nassau County Police Officer killed in the line of duty this week.  Nassau County Police Officer Joseph Olivieri was struck by a car and killed while investigating a traffic accident on the Long Island Expressway this past week.

On the Dix Hills Fire Department Fan Page a post reads “A great young man was taken from this world today… One of our own, Officer Artie Lopez of the Nassau County Police Department and a former Dix Hills firefighter. May you never be forgotten brother. Rest easy.”

Officer Lopez was 29 years old. He was an 8 year veteran of the police force and he leaves behind his mother, father and sister.
