Suffolk County Police arrested a husband and wife after a teen became ill from alcohol poisoning at a party held at the couple’s home in Sayville. The couple’s 16-year-old daughter had invited friends to the home after a banquet held at St. Anthony’s High School located in Melville.
Fifth Precinct Officers Jaime Wendt and Peter Beihoff responded to the home after a 911 caller reported that a 16-year-old female guest became sick from alcohol poisoning at 1:33 a.m. When officers arrived they discovered evidence of a beer drinking game, shot glasses and observed more than 25 underage teens gathered in an apartment which is separate from the home. Some of the teens were visibly intoxicated and witnesses stated that large quantities of vodka had been consumed. Through word of mouth, additional teens who did not know any of the residents also showed up at the party.
The parents were arrested and charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Both were released after posting bail and are scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
