On June 12th the Friends of Oheka Castle held “Garden Party 2013, A GREAT GATSBY STYLE AFFAIR”. The affair included the Best Gatsby and Daisy Costume Award and the Otto Kahn Awards Program. At the event, seven $2500 scholarships were awarded to seniors throughout Huntington.

Michael Kavanaugh—Northport High School
Emily Kenyon—Northport High School
Olivia Marchionda—Walt Whitman High School
Julia Puttre—Northport High School
Raquelle Viteri—Walt Whitman High School
In 1996, friends of OHEKA was created to support Gary Melius’ restoration efforts and adopted as its’ mission, the “protection, preservation and public awareness” of this architectural treasure. In 2003, Friends in partnership with Gary Melius, created the Otto Kahn Awards to honor Kahn’s contributions to the arts and to provide scholarships to graduating High School seniors throughout Huntington to assist them in continuing their training and education in the arts. From 2003 to present the program has provided over $90,000 in such scholarship funds. Each year, proceeds from the garden party are used primarily for this program.
