Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating a single-car crash that killed a Dix Hills man in Melville early this morning.

Blake Marcus was driving a 2001 Acura eastbound on the Long Island Expressway when he apparently lost control of the vehicle just east of Exit 49 at approximately 4:25 a.m. The vehicle struck a guardrail on the south side of the roadway causing the guardrail to break and the vehicle slid down the embankment into a wooded area. Both Marcus and his passenger, Dorian America, had to be extricated from the vehicle by Suffolk County Police Emergency Service Section officers and Melville Fire Department personnel.

Marcus, 20, and America, 21, of Wheatley Heights, were both transported to Nassau University Medical Center where Marcus was pronounced dead and America was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing.  Detectives are asking anyone with any information to contact the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
