Pregnant Pedestrian Seriously Injured in Motor Vehicle Crash at White Post Farms

On Saturday, August 17, 2013 at approximately 4:00 p.m., Anika Vorndamme-Cajigal was standing near her car in the parking lot of White Post Farms, located at 250 Old Country Road, Melville.  She was struck by a 2004 Honda that was backing out of a parking spot. The foot of the Honda’s driver, Edward Henselder, slipped off the brake and onto the gas pedal, and the Honda struck Vorndamme-Cajigal and five parked vehicles.

Vorndamme-Cajigal, 37, of Venetian Blvd, Lindenhurst, who is six months pregnant, was transported by Melville Rescue to Huntington Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, including two pelvic fractures. Henselder, 79, of Johnsfield Court, Melville, was not injured.

The Honda was impounded for a safety check. The investigation is continuing and detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed this crash to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
