The 36th Annual Great Cow Harbor 10K Run, sponsored by Capital One Bank, will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 21st, 2013 in the Village of Northport, New York. More than 5,000+ runners are registered to participate in the nationally ranked ten kilometer race. The event will also include a 2K Fun Run/Walk for families and participants of all ages, for which an additional 1,000 entrants are expected to participate. In addition, more than 25,000 spectators are anticipated.
“Our main goal is to make this a fun and unique experience for the community and for all of our runners, whether they are elite runners, local runners, children or the Special Olympians who are the beneficiaries of this race,” said Harvey Sussman, Cow Harbor 10K Run race director. “We are extremely grateful to our supporting sponsors and the thousands of participants who have continued to help us make this event a huge success. We look forward to making this year’s Cow Harbor 10K the best race yet.”
The Great Cow Harbor 10K Run and 2K Fun Run / Walk, a nonprofit event, is held in cooperation with a number of community organizations, including lead sponsor Capital one Bank. The net proceeds from the race are used to make a substantial contribution to Special Olympics New York, the Veterans Administration Hospital in Northport and the local Food Pantry.
“Capital One Bank has been a proud supporter of the Great Cow Harbor 10K for nearly 20 years as part of our long standing commitment to Long Island and we are pleased that the race proceeds will help three very important organizations in our community,” said Jodi Dayborn, district manager of Western Suffolk for Capital One Bank. “We look forward to joining the festivities again this year with our own Capital One running team of bank employees who are equally proud to support this signature event in our Long Island community.”
An awards ceremony will be held immediately following the race, during which age group awards will be given out and a check presentation will be made to the Special Olympics New York.

About Great Cow Harbor
The Great Cow Harbor 10K Run is one of Long Island’s most popular races with 5,000+ runners competing in this 10-Kilometer race through the village streets of Northport. It is sanctioned by the Road Runners Club of America and has been selected the United States Championship Race for twenty-six consecutive years. This race combines small-town ambiance with national-class competition. The Great Cow Harbor 10K Run was also named one of the top 100 races in the country by Runners World, another prestigious running publication. The New England Runner selected The Great Cow Harbor 10K Run its “Race of The Year” for 2009 stating “Big race atmosphere in a small town on the island; It’s a winner!
