Rabbi JacknisAssemblyman Chad Lupinacci recently joined friends and family to celebrate the birthday of Rabbi Ian Jacknis. Rabbi Jacknis, who celebrated his 60th birthday on April 2, is the Rabbi for the South Huntington Jewish Center in Melville.

“Rabbi Jacknis is known by his congregation for the enthusiasm with which he shares his beliefs,” said Lupinacci. “While many often note the increase in membership under his leadership, they also note his tremendous reputation both in the synagogue and the community as a welcoming, responsive, insightful and compassionate leader. All of these characteristics were on display Saturday as people of all faiths across the South Huntington Community turned out to wish Rabbi Jacknis a very happy 60th birthday. I want to extend my best wishes for continued health and happiness to Rabbi Jacknis, his wife Suri and all his friends and family.”

Rabbi Jacknis joined the South Huntington Jewish Center in 1993. He is a Past President of the Rabbinical Assembly of Nassau-Suffolk as well as the Suffolk Council of Jewish Organizations. The Rabbi also serves as the Jewish Chaplain to the Melville Fire Department. He is married to Suri Jacknis, who serves as Associate Director of Congregational Learning for The Jewish Education Project.
