Walt Whitman H.S. Trespass 2

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and the Second Precinct Crime Section are seeking the public’s help to identify and locate the man who unlawfully entered Walt Whitman High School earlier this month.

An unknown man entered the school, located at 301 West Hills Road in Huntington Station, on April 11, 2014 at approximately 3:50 a.m. The man took several photographs and videos of the interior of the school before leaving in a light colored 4-door sedan.

County Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.

Superintendent of South Huntington School District David Bennardo sent this message to the community after the incident:

As we reported earlier today, the Walt Whitman administration and police department worked throughout the day to determine the identity of an individual who had intruded for a brief period in the high school during the overnight hours.   The officers did take a person into custody but that individual has now been determined not to be the intruder.  Again, there was no danger to our students and staff but the police will continue their investigation and work throughout the weekend and week ahead to address the situation.

We want to thank the members of the 2nd Precinct who remained on site throughout the day, adding an extra layer of safety and security to our school.

We will keep you apprised of any changes.

Again, be well and have a wonderful holiday.

 Dave
