Intel Winner

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone presented a proclamation Friday to Aron Coraor recognizing the Huntington High School student who placed sixth in the international  Intel Science Talent Search this year.

“Suffolk County takes pride in having such an excellent student whose work brings recognition to his school and community,” County Executive Bellone stated. “We look forward to learning more about the next phase of his career.”

Coraor will attend Cornell University where he plans to double major in Chemical Engineering and Materials Science.

His project focused on resolving inconsistencies in theories on how the moon’s crust may have formed. It was entitled “Pressure Dependent Azeotropic Melting Relations in the Mg2SiO4-Fe2SiO4-NaAlSi3O8-CaAl2Si2O8 System: A Critical Role in Lunar Highlands Formation?”

Coraor received a $25,000 award for his research.

The Intel Science Talent Search is the premier high school science and math competition in the world. Coraor’s sixth-place finish is the highest in New York this year.  It is also the best finish ever for a Huntington High School student.
