The Melville Fire Department responded to a head-on collision occurring on Wolf Hill Road near Saxon Street, Thursday night, June 12, at about 10 p.m. The crash involved a Ford Mustang and a Ford Explorer sports utility vehicle. Both drivers suffered non-life threatening injuries and were transported to Huntington Hospital by the Melville FD Rescue Squad. Firefighters applied an absorbent to the road for a resulting fuel spill. About 30 volunteer firefighters and emergency medical personnel were on the scene with two engines, two ambulances, a heavy rescue truck, fire police and a paramedic responder. Units were under the command of Melville Fire Chief Mike McKeefrey, with the support of Assistant Chiefs Paul Mahler and Chris Nolan.
