Update:
Suffolk County Police arrested Daniel Karpen for biting a police officer on her arm at a town meeting in Huntington this evening.
Before entering a meeting room at Huntington Town Hall, located at 110 East Main St., a public safety official asked to search Daniel Karpen’s backpack at approximately 6:40 p.m. Karpen refused and was asked to step outside but he ran into a meeting room where people were gathered to discuss a construction project in Elwood. Second Precinct officers who were at the town hall attempted to handcuff Karpen who had caused a disturbance. While officers were trying to detain him, Karpen bit a female officer on her arm.
The officer was transported to Huntington Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Karpen, 66, of Huntington, was charged with Disorderly Conduct, Criminal Trespass 3rd Degree, Resisting Arrest and Assault 2nd Degree. He will be held overnight at the Second Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on June 18.
Karpen is a “regular” at Town Hall meetings. He is known to wear wooden clogs and bring all kinds of props usually to illustrate his displeasure with decisions made by Supervisor Petrone and the town board majority. His props have included a duck from Heckscher pond and a can of worms. Karpen claimed that he had turtles in his bag.

And how many others were asked to have their bags checked? Exactly NONE. Set up? you decide. Danny Karpen attends more Town Board meetings than Frank Petrone. The only difference? the Suffolk PD knew not of Danny’s quirks, including not wanting to be touched. What did they think he had in his back pack?
