Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone announced today that New York State has opened a disaster recovery center to assist Suffolk County residents who have been displaced or severely impacted from the historic floodwaters caused by the recent storm.  The recovery center is located at the Town of Islip Town Hall at 401 Main Street.

“I would like to thank Governor Cuomo’s office and our state officials for proactively assisting our region in this immediate time of need,” said County Executive Bellone.  “All those who have swiftly pulled together to provide our residents with the necessary resources ought to be commended.”

New York State officials will assist residents on how to file insurance claims and proceed with the Department of Motor Vehicles in reference to abandoned or flooded vehicles.  In addition, mental health professionals and representatives from the American Red Cross will be available to provide further support.

The intake center will also include representatives from Suffolk County’s Department of Health to update residents on public health related concerns.  In addition, Suffolk County’s Department of Social Services will be on hand to those in need of social services.
