By Steve Silverman

The Huntington Fire Department is inviting residents to their annual Open House on Friday, October 10, from 7pm-9pm at the firehouse on 1 Leverich Place between New York Avenue and Wall Street. There will be many events and demonstrations as well as fire prevention and safety information given by Huntington’s volunteer firefighters. Children will be able to practice getting out of their house in case of a fire in the department’s Fire Safety Trailer. There will be live kitchen, oven and wastepaper basket fire demonstrations showing the proper way to use fire extinguishers. Firefighters will demonstrate the powerful Hurst “Jaws of Life” tools, which are used to remove people that are trapped in auto accidents. Fire trucks will be on display and firefighters will explain the various apparatus and their use. The Water and Ice Rescue Team will show the equipment used to perform rescues in the waters around Huntington. Free raffles will also be held for Smoke Detectors, Carbon Monoxide alarms and fire extinguishers.
