Man Killed on Long Island Expressway

Suffolk Police News ReleaseSuffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding a crash that killed a man in Melville on Sunday, November 16, 2014. 

A 2014 Isuzu box truck was traveling on the far right lane of the eastbound Long Island Expressway in Melville when he struck a man that entered his lane of travel, just east of exit 49, at approximately 2:05 p.m.  The pedestrian, whose identification is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

The truck driver, Humberto Maldonado, 49, of Brentwood, was not injured.

The investigation is continuing.  The vehicle was impounded for safety check and the investigation is continuing.  Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have information on this crash to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
