60-70 Vehicles Gathered On Melville Road, Two Vehicles Were Preparing to Race

Second Precinct Officer Jesus Faya responded to Melville Park Road in Melville at approximately 11:15 p.m. on November 23 and observed approximately 60-70 vehicles gathered along the road and two vehicles were preparing to race.  The spectators fled after Officer Faya’s arrival.  Officer Faya stopped Fernando Romero-Alvarado, one of the two drivers engaged in a race, near Maxess Road in Melville.

Alvarado, 35, of New Jersey Ave., Bay Shore, was arrested and charged with Unauthorized Speed Contest, Reckless Driving and Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer in a Vehicle 3rd Degree. The 1996 green Honda Civic Alvarado was driving was impounded.

Alvarado will be held overnight at the Second Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on November 24.
