Dear Huntington Students, Staff, Parents and Community Members,

It seems as if we just opened our doors for the 2014-15 school year, but the first quarter has actually flown by. As the holidays approach, it is important for us to take time to reflect and show gratitude for all with which we have been blessed, not the least of which are the many positive things that have been occurring daily in our schools and classrooms.

There’s no greater feeling than knowing we have the opportunity to make a difference in some way with even the little things that we do. Simple gestures like saying thank you to a veteran who served our country, donating an item to a food or clothing bank, giving of your heart to serve a meal to those less fortunate or just acknowledging the effort of a student, peer, neighbor or family member can have an impact that may last longer than you will ever realize.

As you gather with friends and family this Thanksgiving, remember that each and every one of us has the ability to positively influence somebody else’s life. Without a doubt, you are someone’s blessing – a child’s encouragement, a friend’s comfort or your family’s strength. As you pay it forward this holiday season, you’ll be amazed to watch your own blessings multiply.

May you enjoy the true spirit of Thanksgiving … sharing when you learn and giving when you receive. I am genuinely thankful to be part of a school community that gives selflessly to 4,600 children who look to us every day for guidance and support.

On behalf of the Huntington School District, I wish our Flower Hill, Jefferson, Southdown, Washington, Jack Abrams STEM, Woodhull, Finley and Huntington High School families a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. And may it be the beginning of a joyous holiday season!

Warm regards,

James W. Polansky
Superintendent of Schools
