Firefighters from the Commack Fire Department used heavy rescue extrication tools to free a woman trapped in a crushed SUV that collided with a cesspool truck on Veterans Memorial Highway and Harned Road in Commack on Friday, November 28, 2014, at around 4:15 p.m.
It was a difficult rescue operation as firefighters removed the roof and several doors of the SUV using “Jaws of Life” rescue tools, and had the victim extricated within 40 minutes. The patient was treated by the Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corps and airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital by Suffolk Police Medivac helicopter.
About 50 Commack firefighters and emergency medical personnel were at the scene under the command of Commack Fire Dept. Assistant Chief Andy Babajko and Commack Ambulance Assistant Chief Alan Groveman.
