Hoax or not, that is the question-HOAX.
NYDAILYNEWS ran “A man trekking through the woods on Long Island recorded video evidence of what he thought to be a murderer’s shrine — including more than a dozen missing persons flyers posted on trees and the apparent remnants of a shelter.”
SYRACUSE.COM POSTED:
“…Gotta wonder just what sort of person thinks it’s OK to use real missing persons posters of people’s lost loved ones as party decor,” Rankin complained.
It’s unclear if Suffolk County Police are still investigating. Orlando police told WFTV that the New York footage is not believed to be a possible lead in Kesse’s case.
ThePatch posted “A man walking through the woods in Huntington’s Berkeley Jackson County Park on Monday recorded a video that has since been seen by more than 200,000 viewers of what he and many others believed to be “evidence of a serial killer or a body dump.””
Well both the NYDAILYNEWS & SYRACUSE.COM went with what thePatch posted how foolish on all parties. One phone call to Police at 2nd Precinct which is the area responsible for this investigation sent K-9’s, plus officers this morning and police told theHuntingtonian.com it was a hoax just like all the clown sights.
The maker of this video was arrested in 2014 for trespassing before, nothing new for him. See arrest here http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2014/04/15/police-man-charged-with-trespassing-after-taking-pictures-inside-l-i-high-school/
Cbs stated “As CBS 2’s Jennifer McLogan reported, James Rankin, 35, a 1996 graduate of Walt Whitman High School, was spotted on surveillance video on campus taking photos around 3:50 a.m. this past Friday, 1010 WINS’ Mona Rivera said.”
Did Rankin trespassed again to make this video? Is he lucky the police and the owner of the property have not pressed charges. His actions here show a need for attention and shows that the Media does not fact check like they should. The Patch.com, the DailyNews and Sryacuse.com should know better. Did he even think for one minute he maybe hurting the families of the missing posters and the media has responsibility here too. A big question is will thePatch.com issue an apology to Derek Seehausen’s Family? Police confirmed that this was setup by the owner and that he did download the posters from Internet sites to use for the Halloween party on his property. Plus Rankin knew he was on private property and knew where he was. He was 200 to 300 feet from Jericho Turnpike and or Manor Road in Huntington, NY.
Rankin did not think about his actions for people like this, Briana Borenstein who stated on YOUTUBE “I don’t know who you are or why you posted the video of missing persons. But I am Derek Seehausen’s brother’s girlfriend. Derek’s poster is approximately 3 minutes and 20 seconds into your video. Derek’s family and close friends have now been receiving links to this video via our tip site. When you posted the video you may not have considered the enormous loss experienced by those who knew individuals in those posters. These are real people with real families who have experienced years of tremendous grief. These tragic stories should not be used for the entertainment of others.”
And now he thinks he is cool because the video has millions of hits for a hoax. Plus now running with this on Facebook like it is real and talking to the Patch is James Charlton. We have received multiple calls on this, that both should be investigated by the police. However police told theHuntingtonian that they did investigate Rankin already. They do not know what James Charlton is trying to create with this Hoax. This is a primary example of the internet and the negative it can bring.
From the Patch “Huntington Patch reader James Charlton said in a Facebook message to Patch that the incident needs to be investigated further and parents and children of the nearby areas should be aware of this discovery, whether it was made by an actual killer or not. “There’s nothing OK about using real missing persons as decoration,” he said. “I also don’t see any reason why on October 3 there would be weather proofed paper ‘decorations’ on the trees. It seems very unusual.” ” Charlton is now posting and engaging in groups on Facebook. Nothing like spreading fear that is FALSE.
This is a HOAX and so is the CLOWN issue as stated by Police Inspector Hatton 2nd Precinct. Be careful of what is posted on the internet, so much false information.
