Little Shelter Is Looking For Some Very Special Guests For Our 90th Anniversary

With Little Shelter’s 90th anniversary less than a week away, we are looking for some very special people to join us for commemorating this landmark event. We are asking for any descendants of our founders and the children who were present at the opening ceremony in 1927 to get in touch with us.

Little Shelter was founded by a small group of amazing people. Many of our friends know the story of Anna Hunninghouse who started Little Shelter, however she was not alone in her efforts. We would like to thank the descendants of these families that made our proud history possible at the upcoming anniversary this weekend.

Some of the individuals whose descendants we are searching for are:

  • Mrs. Anna M. Hunninghouse
  • Mrs. Josephine B. Gilreath
  • Miss Mindred Van Santen
  • Hon. Bertha Rembaugh

It is of no surprise that many children were present at the opening ceremony. Even in our humble beginnings the importance of educating children in the humane treatment of animals was something that Anna Hunninghouse held dear. To this day, Little Shelter runs a humane education program where we go to schools and teach children how to care for all living things. To commemorate this special program at our anniversary we are asking for any descendants of the children to reach out to us.

Children:

  • Alice Jude
  • Dorothy and Marjorie Bull
  • Evelyn and Julia Knight
  • Katherine McKenna
  • Adele Kruger
  • Clifford Powell

If you or anyone you know has some of this great heritage in their family tree, please contact us 631-368-8770 ext. 25 and let us know.
