The Melville Fire Department responded to a fire in a house undergoing renovations on Phaetons Drive in Melville, at 6:47 a.m. on Thursday, April 20, 2017. Sixty firefighters using eight trucks from Melville, Huntington Manor, Plainview, East Farmingdale and Greenlawn fire departments battled the blaze in the 5,000 square-foot home which was brought under control within 45 minutes, under the direction of Melville Fire Chief Jason Bernfeld and Assistant Chiefs Chris Nolan and David Kaplan.  The Huntington Fire Department and Huntington Community First Aid Squad provided standby coverage for Melville during the alarm. The fire gutted the entire second floor of the house, with water damage to the first floor. The cause of the fire appears to be accidental, and is under investigation by the Suffolk Police Arson Squad and Town of Huntington Fire Marshal. There were no injuries reported.
