The Melville Fire Department was dispatched for a car fire on the Northern State Parkway in the eastbound lanes between exits 40 and 41 (Route 110 and Wolf Hill Road) on Wednesday, June 14, at about 6:55 p.m. Firefighters responded with an engine and heavy rescue truck, and extinguished a working fire in a Volkswagen. The driver suffered minor cuts and declined medical assistance. Units were under the direction of Assistant Chiefs David Kaplan and Bill Schmitt.
