The Long Island Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO (LI Fed) unveiled the endorsement of Democratic Councilwoman Tracey Edwards in the race for Huntington Town Supervisor.
“Huntington needs Tracey Edwards, a strong, steady leader who will be a champion for working families and shares a common vision with our movement about the future of Huntington. She knows that when working people have good jobs with decent pay and benefits we are building healthy vibrant communities with a strong economy,” said John Durso, President of the Long Island Federation of Labor.
Tracey Edwards, first elected in 2013, has been a strong partner establishing Opportunities Long Island an apprenticeship preparation training program with the LI Fed and the Nassau-Suffolk Building and Construction Trades Council, to support Huntington, which provides access to high-quality careers in the unionized construction industry. Through the Huntington Opportunity Resource Center, which she spearheaded, residents have continued to grow the union ranks across the building and construction trades improving our infrastructure, and moving projects forward with the highest skilled labor available in the industry.
“While Tracey’s opponents are looking to stop progress and enact moratoriums, Tracey is committed to upgrading roads and sidewalks and addressing the historic deficit of affordable housing for millennials, young families, and seniors, added Durso. Tracey rightly supports balanced smart development and union labor, calling moratoriums counterproductive to the goal of retaining young families, a constituency that the town and all of our communities across Long Island need to thrive.”
“There is a Democratic primary on Tuesday September 12, 2017 and a general election on Tuesday, November 7, 2017. We firmly believe only one candidate can deliver on all fronts. That candidate is Councilwoman Tracey Edwards, and that’s why the more than 250,000 members of the Long Island Federation of Labor are proud to wholeheartedly endorse Councilwoman Edwards’ campaign for Huntington Supervisor.”
“I’m excited and energized to have earned the endorsement of the largest Labor group representing working people in our region, the Long Island Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO. We share the same values – we want to build a stronger economy for everyone,” said Councilwoman Tracey Edwards. “The leadership of the LI Fed has worked to improve the lives of hardworking families, seniors, and the overall quality of life in our communities, and I am proud to have their vote of confidence.
