Vehicle to be used in Second Precinct for parades, large gatherings and neighborhood patrols

Suffolk County Police Chief of Department Stuart Cameron and Suffolk County Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services Commissioner Joseph Williams will thank officials from the Melville Fire District and students from Western Suffolk BOCES for their efforts in the donation of a vehicle for use by the Suffolk County Auxiliary Police program during a press conference at the Melville Fire Department on April 11.

The Melville Fire District donated a decommissioned 2003 Ford Crown Victoria for use by the Second Precinct Auxiliary Police Unit. Western Suffolk BOCES Wilson Technological Center students inspected the vehicle and performed minor repairs in preparation for the vehicle’s second life with the police auxiliaries. Outfitted and striped for official use, it is now ready for active service with unit volunteers. The Auxiliary Police program is under the auspices of the Suffolk County Department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services and managed by the Suffolk County Police Department.  Auxiliary officers are trained volunteers who assist the police department with traffic and crowd control at parades, large gatherings as well as neighborhood patrols.

This is the first time a fire district has donated a vehicle to the police auxiliary program.
