Melville Fire Department volunteers responded to a truck fire on the Long Island Expressway's eastbound lanes near the Route 110 exit on May 10, 2018 at 6:30 a.m. The fire started in the brakes of a double trailer truck loaded with carpeting, and was contained to the tires and outer walls of the trailer. Two engines and an ambulance were dispatched and under the direction of First Assistant Chief David Kaplan. Crews quickly extinguished the fire and there were no injuries reported.
