Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci presented a proclamation honoring senior volunteers on the National Service Day of Recognition at Paumanack Village on April 2018.

Federation of Organizations has a robust senior volunteer program and actively engages senior volunteers in efforts to address important community needs with their Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion volunteer programs. Supervisor Lupinacci presented a proclamation recognizing senior volunteers from the Town of Huntington: Penny Riley, Ann Matusoff, Mary Butler-Harvey, Angelina Guiliano, Patricia Paternostro, Alice deGroot, Sharon Hickerson, Patricia Ciesielski, and Diane Vinci.

“It’s a proud moment, to see Huntington’ senior volunteers making this personal commitment to helping children overcome challenges and succeed in school,” said Supervisor Lupinacci, “and providing companionship and care for homebound – and sometimes isolated – seniors. Their selfless work makes a huge difference in the lives of those they serve.”

Eight Foster Grandparent volunteers serve in six elementary schools, Head Starts, and day cares in the Town of Huntington including: Birchwood Primary School, Countrywood Primary Center, Maplewood Intermediate School, Oakwood Primary Center, Rainbow Chimes Day Care, and Washington Drive Primary School. Several Senior Companion volunteers have been partnered with frail elderly in the Huntington area.

National Service Recognition Day is a nationwide bipartisan effort to recognize the positive impact of national service, to thank those who serve, and to encourage more citizens to give back to their communities.
