At a Board of Education meeting, a special dedication ceremony took place honoring Eagle Scouts from as far back as 1952, who graduated from Walt Whitman High School. “The idea for tonight’s ceremony was born a couple of years ago when Walt Whitman High School tied a national record with 11 Eagle Scouts in the class of 2017,” said BOE President Mr. Nicholas Ciappetta. “We looked for a way to celebrate this incredible achievement that reflects so positively on our schools and our community. The idea quickly expanded to include every Eagle Scout to have graduated from Walt Whitman.”

School District Administrators and Board members, along with BSA Suffolk County Council President Mr. Andrew Calev and BSA Matinecock District Commissioner Mr. George J.S. Smith, unveiled a plaque in the district’s new Leadership Conference Room representing 199 Eagle Scouts.
