East Northport Fire Department 9/11 Memorial Service
The East Northport Fire Department will be hosting their 17th Annual 9/11 Memorial Service on Tuesday, September 11th, 2018, at Fire Headquarters located on Larkfield Road and Ninth Avenue.
The East Northport Fire Department membership has vowed to “Never Forget” that tragic day and invites the community to join with them to remember those innocent lives that were taken at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and Flight 93 in Pennsylvania.
There are two Memorial ceremonies; the morning ceremony will begin at 9:45 A.M. and an evening candle light ceremony will start at 8:00 P.M.
Both ceremonies will take place on the Ninth Avenue side of the Firehouse and will be located at the 9/11 Memorial Monument set around an eight-foot, 8,000-pound Steel Beam recovered from Ground Zero that the Department received from the Port Authority of New York.
During the memorials, firefighters and EMS personnel will read the victims names and the sirens will sound to mark the times of the collapse of the Twin Towers. The Northport High School Tights will be singing the National Anthem and America the Beautiful, Stan Wertheimer of the Centerport Fire Department will play Taps, with Amazing Grace played by the Northport Pipe and Drum Band. There will be a 7 Gun salute from the Marine Corps League and we will release Memorial Doves as a symbol of peace. A Memorial Banner will be displayed on a fire engine that lists all the victim’s names. Suffolk County Police Department Aviation Unit will have a helicopter do a flyover at the end of the ceremony.
