Car Crashes into Carvel in Elwood Shopping Center

The Dix Hills Fire Department responded to reports of a car crashing into the Carvel store in the Elwood Shopping Center on East Jericho Turnpike, Wednesday, November 7, 2018, at about 7:30 p.m. About 40 Dix Hills firefighters and rescue personnel were dispatched with four engines, two ambulances and a paramedic unit, under the direction of Chief Tom Napolitano and Assistant Chiefs Alan Berkowitz and Brett Tepe. The driver of the SUV involved suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Huntington Hospital by the Dix Hills Rescue Squad. There were no injuries reported inside the store. Firefighters removed the remaining glass from the store front and secured the scene. The Town of Huntington Building Inspector was requested to respond to assess the structural damage.
