SCPD To Hold Graduation of 175th Recruit Class
Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, Suffolk County Police Commissioner Geraldine Hart and Suffolk County Police Chief of Department Stuart Cameron will preside over the Suffolk County Police Academy graduation ceremony in Brentwood on May 9 2019, at 10 a.m.
The recruits completed 30 weeks of academy training and received more than 1,000 hours of instruction on topics including law, emergency medical training, domestic violence, mental illness, cultural diversity, and terrorism.
The class of 109 graduates is comprised of 79 Suffolk County Police recruits, of which approximately 31 percent have previous law enforcement experience while 11 percent have served in the military. Seven of the SCPD recruits are designated Spanish-speaking officers. The academy also trained 30 recruits for outside and associated agencies.
The 175th class also found time to give back to the community, taking part in philanthropic activities. Recruits collected and donated hundreds of toys to the United States Marine Corps Reserves Toys for Tots program and made more than 15,000 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for local students through a group called Jammin’ for the Community.
