Suffolk County Police Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at approximately 12:45 a.m. arrested a man for Driving While Intoxicated under Leandra’s Law after he was pulled over in Huntington Station for a traffic stop with his young children in the car.
Miguel Cruz was driving a 2012 Nissan Rogue southbound on New York Avenue near Depot Road when a highway patrol officer initiated a traffic stop for speeding and failure to maintain a lane at approximately 12:45 a.m.
Cruz, 25, of 167 First Ave., Huntington Station was arrested and charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger 15-Years-Old or Younger (Leandra’s Law). The passengers in the vehicle were his 2-year-old daughter, his 4-year-old son, his 25-year-old girlfriend Katherine Diaz, and his 16-year-old brother.
The children were released to the custody of Diaz.
Cruz will be held overnight at the Second Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on June 19, 2019.
