Club Notes and Announcements

We thank Mr. Ed Blankenhorn, who is the Republican candidate for Receiver of Taxes for the Town of Babylon, and Mr. Hector Gavilla, who is the Republican candidate for Suffolk County’s 16th Legislative District, for speaking at our June meeting.

Mr. Blankenhorn is an engineer with financial experience as a Treasurer. The statutory requirements of this office are the responsibility for the collection of taxes for the Town of Babylon along with the taxes for all the other taxing agencies in the town, such as school districts, fire districts, Suffolk County, police districts, etc. The Receiver of Taxes is responsible for the disbursement of these funds to the various agencies, accounting for the same and issuing summary reports of this work. The Receiver of Taxes also maintain the tax maps and updates the tax maps, land titles and tax records for the Town. This work requires a superior system of oversight and records maintenance. As the Receiver of Taxes, he will bring his financial experience to work effectively for the Town of Babylon.

Mr. Blankenhorn noted he is on the Republican line only. This year the Conservative Party endorsed many Democrats rather than Republican candidates.

This year, Mr. Gavilla is running on an expanded platform and seeks to address a number of issues that have gotten worse over the past two years. His voice will be supportive of improved fiscal management, reduction of newly imposed County fees and improving the quality of life
throughout Suffolk County. Mr. Gavilla reviewed a number of items related to Suffolk County spending showing the wastefulness of the Bellone Administration and the support the democratic legislature allows for this waste. Mr. Gavilla will work with the Republican legislators to bring back prudent financial management to the County. On an encouraging note, Mr. Gavilla was endorsed by the Conservative Party for the County Legislature.

3)by mail at Friends of Hector Gavilla, c/o LIP Realty, 21 Vanderbilt

Recall last month Mr. Ellis also spoke of the financial issues facing Suffolk County. Under the failed leadership of Steve Bellone, Suffolk County is one step away from a Financial Oversight Board. Mr. Ellis said it is vital to the financial health of Suffolk to get John Kennedy Jr. elected as County Supervisor this November. It is also important to get Republicans elected to the county legislature so Mr. Kennedy will have the support to make much needed changes in the County’s fiscal management.
