Huntington Issues Call for Names of Huntington World War II Veterans

Final Plaque to be Installed on Veterans Plaza WWII Memorial

Supervisor Lupinacci is asking families of Huntington World War II veterans, living or deceased, to contact the Town’s Veterans Affairs coordinator to add names for the final plaque to be installed on the World War II Memorial on Veterans Plaza by November 30, 2019.

“The World War II Memorial on Veterans Plaza is the Town’s monument honoring the memory, service and sacrifice of Huntington’s World War II veterans and we want to make sure every Huntington resident who served is recognized,” said Supervisor Lupinacci, who pointed out his maternal grandfather’s name, Joseph J. Di Spirito, engraved on the memorial. “If you are unsure if your family member is recognized on the memorial, come and visit Veterans Plaza on the front lawn of Town Hall, where you can view the 6,000 names that have been added since the memorial was dedicated for Veterans Day in 1996.”

The Town of Huntington and Veterans Advisory Board will be placing additional names of Huntington World War II veterans on the WWII Memorial located on Veterans Plaza at Huntington Town Hall.

To be eligible, the Huntington World War II veteran must have been a resident of the Town of Huntington at any time in their life for a minimum of six (6) months and served any time between December 7, 1941 and December 31, 1946.
