Motorcyclist Seriously Injured in Crash after Driving Through a Red Light – Dies
Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating a crash that seriously injured a motorcyclist in Huntington Station early in the morning of Sunday, September 1, 2019 at approximately 3:30 a.m..
Gerson Mendez-Cruz, the motorcyclist who was seriously injured in a crash, has been pronounced dead. The investigation is continuing.
Gerson Mendez-Cruz was operating a 2004 Kawasaki motorcycle eastbound on Jericho Turnpike when he rode through a red light at the intersection of Melville Road and collided with an Uber at approximately 3:30 a.m. The Uber, a 2018 Ford, had been travelling northbound on Melville Road.
Mendez-Cruz, 20, of Greenlawn, was transported to Huntington Hospital in serious condition. A 22-year-old female passenger in the Uber was transported to the same hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The Uber driver, Felix Perez, 24, of Levittown, was not injured.
Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to contact the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
