Pet Peeves, Inc. Annual – Funds Grant Programs for Long Island Shelters and Rescue Groups

Unleash the Love! Luncheon, the annual fundraiser of the animal advocacy group Pet Peeves, Inc. was a resounding success in its 17th year. Pet Peeves, a not-for profit, umbrella organization that provides financial support to local organizations that aide animals in need, raised more than $120,000, thanks to a sold out luncheon, raffle sales and significant donations from Hassett Subaru, Bethpage Federal Credit Union (presenting sponsor) and private foundations. The money will be distributed in the form of grants to Long Island animal shelters, pet rescue groups, humane education programs and pet therapy programs.  Since its inception, Pet Peeves has donated $ 1,550,000 to those programs.
“We are beyond grateful to the Long Island business community and our individual donors for their generous and ongoing support,” said Janine Dion, the founder and president of Pet Peeves. “The animals may be unable to ask for help, but we see Pet Peeves as the voice of Long Island pets in need.  As a fundraising organization, we do not perform the hands-on rescue but through corporate and individual donations fund the shelters, rescue groups and individuals who work on the front lines.”

As an all-volunteer organization, the monies Pet Peeves raise go directly to animal rescue, care and rehabilitation –not to administration, facilities or issues that do not directly impact the welfare of the animals. Pet Peeves makes a difference in the lives of vulnerable companion animals by supplying the funds needed for food, care and a warm place to sleep. Most of all, Pet Peeves helps nonprofit rescue groups and shelters give these desperate animals a chance to find a new family and home through adoption programs.

Through its grant process, Pet Peeves also provides funds for spay/neuter programs, low cost and free clinics, medical supplies, trap-neuter-return [TNR] programs for feral cats and Safe Haven programs.  The organization is also an avid supporter of pet therapy programs and continually seeks to raise funds and awareness of the programs that bring companion animals into hospitals, nursing homes and schools.  It actively supports Humane Education initiatives that provide workshops, seminars and lectures geared to children and their families who own pets, are considering owning a pet, or have avoided pet ownership due to misconceptions or lack of information.
