Dix Hills FD Battles House Fire on Wildwood in Dix Hills

The Dix Hills Fire Department responded to a house fire on Wildwood Drive in Dix Hills on Sunday night, December 15, 2019 at 9:49 p.m. First arriving firefighters encountered a heavy fire in the attached garage extending to an upstairs bedroom and the attic. Firefighters initiated an aggressive attack on the blaze which was brought under control within 45 minutes, under the direction of Chief Alan Berkowitz.
Mutual aid assistance was provided at the scene by the Melville, Deer Park and Wyandanch fire departments, with Commack and Greenlawn units on standby at Dix Hills fire headquarters. About 75 firefighters and emergency medical personnel were on the scene with eight trucks and three ambulances. The group home next door to the fire was evacuated for precautionary reasons. There were no injuries reported, and the fire is under investigation by the Suffolk Police Arson Squad and Town of Huntington Fire Marshal.
