Dix Hills Fire Department volunteers responded to a reported chimney fire at a home on Corwin Court on Saturday, January 18, 2019, at about 4pm. Upon arrival, first arriving firefighters found a chimney fire to the rear of the house extending into the walls and up into the attic. Crews initiated an aggressive interior attack and were able to quickly knock down the fire, which was contained to one wing of the home.

Mutual aid assistance was provided at the scene by the Commack, Deer Park, Greenlawn and Huntington Manor FD’s, with Melville FD and Huntington Community First Aid Squad units handling standby coverage for Dix Hills. About 80 firefighters and rescue personnel were on the scene with 10 trucks and three ambulances, under the direction of Chief Alan Berkowitz and Third Assistant Chief Scott DiPino.

Chief Berkowitz praised his firefighters for fighting a tough fire under difficult conditions due to the snowstorm that blanketed the area. There were no injuries reported and the Town of Huntington Fire Marshal and Suffolk Police Arson Squad are investigating.
