Pedestrian Seriously Injured in Motor Vehicle Crash At Walt Whitman Mall

Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that seriously injured a pedestrian in Huntington Station yesterday afternoon.

Helen Rivera was standing in a handicap spot in the parking lot of Walt Whitman Shops, located at 160 Walt Whitman Road, when a Honda CRV, driven by Robert Berger, pulled into the parking spot and struck Rivera and a sign at approximately 1:30 p.m.

Rivera, 76, of Lisa Court, Holbrook, was airlifted to Nassau University Medical Center where she was listed in serious condition. Berger, 83, of Forsythia Lane, Jericho, was not injured.

Second Squad detectives are continuing the investigation. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.

  1. At 83 I don’t think it was intentional to hit that person, he could of hit a shopping cart. But the people who feel they as a pedestrian that they can reserve a spot while other cars are circling the the parking lot for 5 minutes searching for an open spot is wrong, no car, no spot, it’s very simple, also stop holding seats for people who can’t get to church on time.
