The Dix Hills Fire Department responded to a two-vehicle crash on the Long Island Expressway in the eastbound lanes, just west of the Half Hollow Road bridge near exit 50 on Saturday afternoon, June 7, at about 2:15 p.m. A late model sports utility vehicle struck the Jersey wall and overturned onto its side, injuring a mother and her baby who was strapped into a child safety seat. Both suffered neck and back injuries and were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital by the Dix Hills Rescue Squad. About 30 firefighters and rescue personnel were on the scene with two ambulances, three rescue pumpers, first responder and paramedic units, under the command of Second Assistant Chief Tom Napolitano.
