The Huntington Manor Fire Department was dispatched to an early morning house fire on Engelke Avenue in Huntington Station, at about 3 a.m., Thursday, June 12. First arriving units confirmed a working fire with flames showing. Using three engines and two ladder trucks, 35 firefighters began an aggressive attack on the blaze which was brought under control within 15 minutes. The Dix Hills Fire Department assisted with a Rapid Intervention Team at the scene, while the Melville Fire Department supplied an engine to standby at Huntington Manor’s headquarters. Units were under the command of Chief Fred Steenson, Jr., with operations support by Assistant Chiefs Frank McQuade and Jon Hoffmann. The fire apparently began outside and spread into the attic and second floor, causing significant damage to the home. Three sleeping occupants safely evacuated the home after they were alerted to the fire by a Huntington Town security officer that was checking Koster Park, and spotted the fire across the street. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Suffolk Police Arson Squad and Huntington Town Fire Marshal. Suffolk County Fire Coordinators were also on the scene providing assistance. There were no injuries reported.
