Charles Okonkwo
Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives have arrested an 18-year-old Dix Hills man for assaulting his mother and they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of the suspect’s 15-year-old brother.
On Saturday, July 19, second Precinct police officers responded to Norman Court, Dix Hills after Charles Okonkwo, 62, called to report that he had just returned home from a hospital stay and discovered his son, Bradley Okonkwo, 15, dead and his wife, Chinwe Okonkwo, 52, unconscious with severe head injuries. The couple’s other son, Charles Okonkwo, 18, appeared to have fled the scene in a green 2002 BMW X5.
Bradley Okonkwo was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. The Dix Hills Fire Department Rescue Squad transported Chinwe Okonkwo to Suffolk Police Medivac at Half Hollow Hills High School East on Vanderbilt Parkway in Dix Hills. Two Dix Hills Fire engines secured the Landing Zone for the helicopter. Chinwe Okonkwo was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital where she is listed in serious condition.
Police officers from the Second Precinct Crime Section located Charles Okonkwo near his vehicle a short distance from the home. He was transported to Police Headquarters in Yaphank where he was charged with Assault 2nd Degree.
Bradley Okonkwo’s cause of death could not be determined at the scene and an autopsy will be conducted by the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.
