Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone invites residents who are seeking work or looking to improve their skills to participate in workshops offered in September. The workshops have been organized by Suffolk County’s Department of Labor which focuses on quality job training, job development, placement and supportive service for Suffolk’s unemployed and underemployed population.
“Suffolk County is investing in residents by providing a diverse series of workshops designed to improve their job-hunting skills,” County Executive Bellone said. “We are providing skilled presenters who can guide those in need of help or a brushup of their skills so they can find the right employment opportunities.”
Participants must attend an informational meeting at the One-Stop Employment Center before enrolling in a workshop. Call 631-853-6600 to sign up for the Workforce Investment Act meeting before registering for a workshop.

Applying For Jobs Using Social Media: Learn the ins and outs and potential dangers of the on-line job application process. Learn about the use of job boards and social media like Facebook and LinkedIn and how it might help you. Pre-registration required.
Interviewing: Review the needed preparation, conduct, and follow-up to ensure interview success including how to handle challenging questions. Pre-registration required.
How To Work With Recruiters Effectively: Learn to find the right recruiter, what information you should share, and how to navigate the process effectively and cautiously. Pre-registration required.
Job Path Club: Semi-monthly support club that provides an effective forum for networking and presentations on various career/job search topics. Learn the “2 minute presentation”. Pre-registration required.
Networking: Learn the skills you need for building and expanding your own network of people to aid in your job search. Most successful technique to finding a job in today’s market. Pre-registration required.
Salary Negotiation: The basic ability to answer an employer’s questions about salary and plan a strategy to get the income you need. Pre-registration required.
Transferable Skills: Demonstrates how to take previous industry-specific experiences and turn it into a group of general skills applicable to any new occupation. Great for career-changers! Pre-registration required.
Getting Started with LinkedIn: A 2- hour hands-on workshop that covers the basics of LinkedIn including creating an account and a profile. Pre-registration required.
Mastering LinkedIn-Part 1 :An advanced 3 hour hands-on workshop for current LinkedIn users. Covers creating a LinkedIn profile that highlights your skills. Discuss the importance of having a LinkedIn photo, summary, and job description. Prerequisite: must have an account and at least 10 contacts. Pre-registration required.
Mastering LinkedIn-Part 2 : In this 3 hour workshop you will learn how to establish a LinkedIn network and how to make and receive Recommendations, Endorsements, and Introductions as well as how to monitor who is looking at your profile. Facebook for Job Seekers: In this 2 hour workshop you will learn how to use Facebook in your job search. Learn how to research companies and expand your networking capabilities.
