Connor Lynn of Lloyd Harbor and Isabella Molinari of Laurel Hollow were recently recognized for their extraordinary commitment and service to their community by working with the Fresh Air Fund. Connor and Isabella, both entering their sophomore year at Cold Spring Harbor High School, decided they wanted to raise $2,500 to send five children to one of the Fresh Air Fund Camps upstate, which costs $500 to sponsor a child for a week. The pair surpassed their goal and raised $11,000 in just two hours.
The duo, with the money they raised, were able to send multiple kids to camp and also provide them with backpacks and school supplies for the year. LL Bean provided a huge discount on 50 backpacks, which were monogrammed with each child’s name for free. Staples also gave them a big discount to fill each back pack with 17 items needed for school.
“Connor and Isabella are remarkable young individuals that display selflessness by giving back to those who are less fortunate,” said Assemblyman Chad Lupinacci. “Their commitment to others in their community cannot be matched. They went above and beyond their call of duty to provide low income individuals with essential school supplies and an experience that otherwise may never have been possible. I commend both Connor and Isabella for their dedication to helping change the lives of so many young individuals.”
The Fresh Air Fund is an independent, not-for-profit organization created to allow children living in low-income communities to get away from the noisy city streets and enjoy free summer experiences in the country. Host families also provide children, ages six through eighteen, with a home for a week to experience a living situation other than the crowded apartments and streets of New York City.
“The Fresh Air Fund is a wonderful organization that allows children who are caught up in the loud, busy city life to experience something new and relaxing. The organization is continually expanding and with the help of young individuals is providing more and more children with the opportunity to experience life in the country. The various summer camps and host families available through this organization make such a big difference in peoples lives,” concluded Lupinacci.
