The Huntington Manor Fire Department held a 9/11 Candlelight Memorial Service for Chief Peter Nelson, also a firefighter with F.D.N.Y. Rescue Company 4, who was killed in the attack on the World Trade Center on 9/11/01. Firefighters, family, friends and residents of the community gathered for the nighttime service at Peter Nelson Park on Oakwood Road in Huntington Station. First Assistant Chief Frank McQuade welcomed everyone followed by a prayer from Department Chaplain Deacon Ed Billia. Candles were passed around and lit and Chief Fred Steenson, Jr., spoke about 9/11 and the loss of a good friend and dedicated firefighter. Chaplain Tom Petriano offered prayer and the service concluded with the singing of Amazing Grace by Firefighter Jim Fawcett.
