Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone joined United Way of Long Island in announcing Monday that it has received $1.45 million in federal and state grants for YouthBuild Long Island, a community development program where students age 18 to 24 receive hands-on construction skills and green-building techniques. Students in the program have the opportunity to earn their GEDs while working toward receiving the latest green-industry certifications that will help lead to a promising career.
The federal and state grants will enable YouthBuild to expand its career skills training into healthcare training, customer service, office skills and other career areas.
