Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that seriously injured a pedestrian in Greenlawn last night.
A 63-year-old man was attempting to cross the road in front of 32 Clay Pitts Road when he was struck by an eastbound 2012 Honda Odyssey at 9:08 p.m.
The pedestrian, whose identify is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The driver of the Honda, Gigi Franklin, 54, of Greenlawn, was not injured.
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
And the Greenlawn Fire Department responded to the crash with an ambulance, truck, and paramedic units under the direction of Chief Mike Bellis and Assistant Chiefs Joe Costanza and Angelo Santomauro. The Suffolk Police medevac helicopter landed at Saint Francis Church parking lot which was directly across the street from the accident scene.
