Statement From Suffolk Police On London Attacks

Filed under: Crime,Events,Government,Heart of the Community,Long Island,News,Police/Fire/EMS |

Suffolk County Police Commissioner Timothy D. Sini and Suffolk County Police Chief of Department Stuart Cameron thoughts and prayers are with the victims of yet another apparent act of terrorism that occurred this morning in London.  This attack targeted London’s transit system.  The Suffolk County Police is actively monitoring intelligence from the incident in cooperation with our law enforcement partners and we are in contact with the Metropolitan Transit Authority Police.  There is no increased credible threat to Suffolk County at this time; however, out of an abundance of caution the department is increasing patrols at train stations throughout our jurisdiction. Attacks against transit systems are designed to cause fear among those who utilize them.  Our department’s increased presence at LIRR stations in Suffolk County is meant to reassure commuters that they are safe and that they should go about their lives without fear, yet remain vigilant and immediately report any observed suspicious behavior to Law Enforcement.  Our department continues to prepare to prevent, detect, deter, and respond to acts of terrorism.
