Melville Fire Chief Honored for Lifesaving Rescue

The Melville Fire Department recognized Third Assistant Chief Jason Bernfeld for his
lifesaving efforts in rescuing a man from his overturned car moments before it burst
into flames on the Northern State Parkway on March 12, 2018. The man rescued, Matt
Connors of East Northport, presented the Chief with the Medal of Valor Award during
a surprise presentation at the Department's 71st Annual Installation Dinner and
Awards Ceremony. Connors was joined by his parents, John Connors and Dorothy
Jeffery, in thanking Chief Bernfeld for his lifesaving actions.
